Ernesto Maceda 02/12/2010 Sensing that the Hacienda Luisita issue is damaging his candidacy, Noynoy Aquino announced he will complete the distribution of the 6,453-hectare Hacienda Luisita lands to tenant-farmers in five years. Not surprisingly, the announcement raised hackles and questions. NP leftist candidates asked “why not now? Cavite Rep. Boying Remulla challenged Noynoy to withdraw the TRO petition filed by Hacienda Luisita before the Supreme Court. Didn’t Noynoy say he only owns 2 or 3 percent of the corporate shares of Hacienda Luisita? Can he get his uncles Don Pedro Cojuangco, Peping Cojuangco, the Teopacos and the Lopas and other major stockholders to agree to give up the land to farmers? How much compensation will they demand from the government? P400 per square meter or more which as President he will have to approve? Reps. Satur Ocampo, Liza Maza, Rafael Mariano and Boying Remulla are correct. Do it now if you want to be believed. And one thing more, once elected President, no one can compel him to comply with his promise....
