Seguis downplays MILF peace accord

Fearing a collapse of the peace talks with the Muslim secessionists with Malacañang’s admission of a final draft agreement spelling out “executive doables,” in the final draft agreement, chief government negotiator Rafael Seguis yesterday belied reports that there is already a final agreement, similar to the scrapped expanded Muslim homeland accord declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court (SC), that will give the separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) a Bangsa Moro sub-state.

Seguis and his MILF counterpart, Mohagher Iqbal, started formal talks in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday to exchange and discuss their respective draft copies of a comprehensive peace pact..... MORE

With some five months to go before she departs Malacañang, Gloria Arroyo is still pushing through with a peace pact with the Moro secessionists, which will still give them the so-called “ancestral homeland” they have been demanding from this government.

Malacañang says that the new peace pact, or the second Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domain (MoA-AD) for the Bangsa Moro people, which is really the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels, will follow the constitutional path, unlike the first one, which was struck down by the high court for being unconstitutional.... WASHINGTON — Barack Obama Wednesday came across as a defiant and slightly caustic warrior for change, but it was unclear whether his debut State of the Union address had righted his listing presidency.
