Noynoy, through his deputy mouthpiece, recently warned the Moro Islamic Liberation Front to surrender the second highest MILF commander, Dan “Laksaw” Asnawi, a fugitive from justice, or “stand aside” while the Armed Forces of the Philippines starts its offensive in Al-Barka, Basilan, the site of the MILF’s massacre of 19 soldiers some weeks back.

Abigail Valte says it is strictly prohibited under the ceasefire agreement for the MILF to provide safe havens for fugitives.

One of the MILF leaders, vice chairman for political affairs Ghadzali Jaafar, was quoted as saying that it is the military that has not complied with existing mechanisms under a standing ceasefire agreement, which allows government troops to enter MILF territory, in response to the claim of Valte that the MILF will be violating the ceasefire agreement if the rebel group does not surrender Asnawi..... From all indications, it looks like all these delays from Malacaang and Noynoy himself in giving Gloria Arroyo the greenlight to travel for medical reasons have only one intent, which is to have Gloria grovel at Noynoys feet and beg to be allowed to leave.

Surely, it shouldnt take that long for Noynoy or even his Justice secretary, Leila de Lima, to decide whether or not Gloria should be allowed to leave, yet they keep the issue hanging.

But what also puzzles is why Gloria has not brought up her case before the high court to question the Department of Justices Watch List Order (WLO) especially as it is clearly unconstitutional and Gloria would have a pretty good chance of winning her case against the DoJ.

But then, De Limas WLO rests on the DoJs decision which was formulated during Glorias time..... MORE

USA unwilling to discuss its own opposition

USA unwilling to discuss its own opposition

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the West, questioning the policy of the Russian authorities against the opposition, does not want to discuss its own problems.
The Russian Foreign Minister commented on the events surrounding the campaign "Occupy Wall Street" at a press conference in Moscow. According to Sergei Lavrov, "looking at the way the protesters of "Occupy Wall Street" are treated, we have quite a vivid illustration of the fact that a number of our colleagues and partners from western countries are practicing double standards."

As an illustration, let us recall the reaction of the American officials at the detention of Boris Nemtsov on December 31 of last year. Then, the US State Department and National Security Council spoke up.
The campaign ""Occupy Wall Street" has started when on September 17 several hundred demonstrators attempted to occupy the building of the New York Stock Exchange. Then the protesters staged their tent encampment next to the building..... MORE

When former Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon was appointed as Customs commissioner, replacing Angelito Alvarez, who was unceremoniously booted out of office after failing to account for around 2,000 container vans which mysteriously disappeared while en route to the Port of Batangas from the Port of Manila and the Manila International Container Port, the yellows have expressed optimism the agency would finally be eradicated of corruption.

After all, he was personally handpicked by President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino who has vowed to wage an all-out war against corruption even before he assumed office in Malacañang.

But then, with the President known for being tolerant of the abusive and corrupt practices of his own handpicked men, his KKKs (kaibigan, kaklase, kabarilan), doubts were also raised how Ruffy would fare in the anti-corruption drive within the Bureau of Customs..... MORE

May they rest in peace

It is said that the moment one is born, he or she already begins to die. While this is a rather depressing way in looking at life with its many attributions and potentials, it is, however, an undeniable truth that life after all is in fact a transit from birth to death. It is also said when someone dies, this is not news. Instead when someone does not die at all — yes, this is news. While such is the reality, it however still remains true that sorrow usually accompanies death — neither laughter nor rejoicing.

There are certain thoughts that come to mind with the above observations which are not only relevant and valuable but also realistic and practical for those still counted among living — particularly so for those subscribing to the Christian faith that has, keeps and promotes teachings about life and death according to faith and reason. For example:

Whereas it is certain that life does not really come from nothing in here and now — even but considering bilateral parental contribution that made it existent — it is even much more certain that it neither becomes nothing hereafter and beyond..... MORE

Military won’t make public Basilan report

By Mario J. Mallari 11/03/2011

It looks like another Mayuga Report is in the offing.

This could be the case of the Board of Inquiry (BoI) conducted by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) regarding the Al Barka, Basilan debacle which led to the killing of 19 members of the elite Army Special Forces (SF), four of them junior officers.

AFP spokesman Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr., during a press briefing yesterday, hinted that the results of the investigation conducted by AFP Insp. Gen. Maj. Gen. Ireneo Espino may not be released to the public.
“That is for internal consumption to be submitted to the President and Commander-in-Chief. We will wait,” Burgos said.

Asked if the BoI findings could lead to another Mayuga Report, Burgos replied “we should not preempt the President.”.... MORE

Cayetano hits back at RH critics

By Angie M. Rosales 11/03/2011

Sen. Pia Cayetano yesterday lashed back at critics of the controversial Reproductive Health (RH) bill for belittling the findings of the United Nations report that projected the world population to reach seven billion by October 31st, saying that they are “disconnected with the reality.”

The sponsor of the measure in the Senate said critics appear to have failed to recognize the significance of the World Population Report 2011, recently issued by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), to the ongoing national debates on Senate Bill No. 2865 or the proposed National Reproductive Health (RH) Act.

“The real challenge for governments faced with a booming population and dwindling resources is not to control the population, but to ensure equal opportunities for the development of each citizen and family, especially among the poor. That’s the main point of the UN World Population Report, which critics of the RH bill refuse to acknowledge,” she said..... MORE

By Mina Diaz 11/03/2011

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz yesterday said she will utilize the largest social networking site, Facebook, to raise public awareness and to get support to the passage of the “Kasambahay” bill.

“The use of the social networks, like Facebook, is part of our strategy under the Action Plan for the ratification of Convention 189 and the passage of a national law on our Kasambahay,” Baldoz said.

She said the bill would benefit household workers (maids, cooks, yaya, houseboys) in Metro Manila which would give them P2,500 as monthly minimum wage, while those in chartered cities will receive P2,000..... MORE
