Mikey A, wife ask QC court to allow them to travel abroad

“Ang Galing” party-list Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey’’ Arroyo and wife Angela yesterday asked a Quezon City court to allow them to travel and at the same time defer their arraignment in connection with the tax evasion charges filed against them.

As a policy, Judge Marie Christine Jacob of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court’s Branch 100 said the court only allows an accused to travel after his arraignment.

But after the couple’s counsel, Ruy Alberto Rondain, sought an exemption in his clients’ case, the Judge Jacob said she will take her action on the request of the accused for a travel permit tomorrow (Nov. 11).

Rondain on Nov. 3 filed an omnibus motion praying for the suspension of the arraignment..... MORE

"Mikey is being charged with three counts of violation of Section 255 of the National Internal Revenue Code for allegedly failing to file income tax returns from 2007 to 2009 while his wife faces seven counts of the same violation for failure to file her income tax returns from 2003 to 2009.

"The Arroyos posted a bail of P200,000 for their temporary liberty with the party-list representative posting P60,000 and his wife posting P140,000."
