Gov’t may reinvestigate Dacer-Corbito murder — De Lima
By Benjamin B. Pulta 02/05/2011Amid speculations that President Aquino had a hand in the dismissal by the Court of Appeals of the double murder case against still fugitive Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Department of Justice (DoJ) Secretary Leila de Lima sought to assure the public that there will be “closure” in the killing of Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver, Emmanuel Corbito, despite a decision by the CA’s dismissal of the case.
Speaking to reporters, De Lima said the government may opt to consider a reinvestigation of the case which has remained unresolved for 11 years or it may opt to appeal the decision of the appellate tribunal. She added that since the CA’s decision is not final and executory, the arrest warrant against Lacson stands.
“I’m not saying that we are inclined to reinvestigate, but that is one of the options (we have). That is why there is a judicial system (even if) there is frustration sometimes,” De Lima said.
“What is clear to us, like the Vizconde massacre case, is that there is no closure here. Our concern is to put closure and find out who is behind the murder. We have options and the DoJ will take whatever option that is warranted,” she added..... MORE
