With billions in the military to milk, whether through hundreds of millions in pasalubongs and pabaons, or along approvals of highly irregular contracts where more hundreds of millions are made by the top military brass, is it any wonder that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and its officers are into the game of apple-polishing the Malacañang tenant to get to the top, or the near top?
This is probably a major reason the military, despite its claims of being professional and now — even claims of being transparent — can never be so.
Even with the departure of former President Gloria Arroyo, it was already evident that the military generals — at least some of them with an eye of getting the top post and the service command posts — were into playing partisan politics.
Recall that during the presidential campaign period, Noynoy Aquino himself blurted to the media that he had been meeting — clandestinely — with several groups of military officers who apparently gave him situation reports which could have included election-related issues involving the military. The officers have no business meeting up with a presidential candidate or giving him any situation reports..... MORE
