Malaysia court sentences Pinay to death for cocaine smuggling

A Filipino woman was sentenced to death by Malaysia ’s high court for smuggling cocaine in 2008, a report said yesterday.

Jeanette Congcan Opena, 32, a cybercafe owner, was found guilty on Thursday of bringing the illegal substance dissolved in a wet towel at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Dec. 4, 2008, Malaysia ’s New Straits Times said.

The report quoted Judge Datuk Siti Mariah Ahmad that Opena’s defense was “mere denial and unbelievable.”.... MORE
