Cayetano raps poll head on bribery, blackmail
By Angie M. Rosales 04/05/2011Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano yesterday accused Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes of alleged attempted bribery and blackmail.
The poll body chairman, alleged Cayteno, is dangling the case of the senator’s wife, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, in exchange for the minority leader’s approval of Brillantes’ confirmation before the Commission on Appointments (CA).
“I am writing the CA this week asking for a decisive action and full investigation on the attempt to blackmail a member of the CA or myself, by the chairman of the Comelec. I will cooperate 100 percent. If they will require me to name names, I will cooperate,” the senator said even as he urged President Aquino to also conduct his own independent investigation on this matter.
Cayetano, in a luncheon-press conference with a select group of reporters, claimed that Brillantes allegedly threatened to have the electoral protest regarding the mayoralty race in Taguig City yield a decision unfavorable to the senator’s wife, if the former will not meet up with him..... MORE
