Hopes dim for survivors in quake-hit Negros
02/09/2012Hopes have become dim for government and private rescuers to recover survivors from the landslides that hit two residential communities in Negros Oriental province where more than 70 people are still unaccounted three days after magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck in the Visayas region.
National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Undersecretary Benito Ramos said that while authorities are still hopeful to recover survivors in Barangay Planas in Guihulngan City and Barangay Solongan in La Libertad, both in Negros Oriental, chances are very slim.
“It’s been three days now... I am still hoping against hope but the chances are very slim,” admitted Ramos, who was personally overseeing search and retrieval operations in the affected areas..... MORE
