Government to force OFWs to leave Syria
By Michaela P. del Callar 02/09/2012Amid the dismal turnout of evacuees, the Philippine government will try to force Filipinos out of Syria in anticipation of further escalation of violence in the strife-torn Middle East state.
“We may need to go one step further and resort to a strategy of extraction,” said Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario following bloodshed in the Syrian city of Homs, where over 100 anti-government protesters and rebels were reportedly killed by President Bashar al-Assad’s forces, one of the worst in the continuing months-long upheaval in the country.
Del Rosario said the government will activate a rapid response team made up of the Philippine National Police, the Department of Labor and Department of Foreign Affairs personnel to oversee the forced evacuation of Filipinos..... MORE
