Norberto Gonzales, acting Defense chief, who has been just a little over a month in his post, appears hell-bent in ensuring electoral fraud through the active participation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

He wants an expanded military participation in the 2010 polls, which will do away with the memorandum of agreement (MoA) inked between the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Defense Department-AFP in time for the 2007 senatorial polls, which, apart from a few instances of fraud, especially in Maguindanao, were fairly clean.....MORE

Six months before her usurped term in Malacañang ends, Gloria Arroyo has vowed to dismantle private armies before the 2010 polls.

Frankly, given her dismal track record in delivering on her vows and pledges, this pledge to dismantle private armies before the elections is meaningless.

Malacañang says this is to come about due to the so-called independent commission she has formed, saying that the commission is to have broad powers to investigate, to tap all government agencies with the end view of being able to finish its work, prosecuting, if necessary, and submitting its recommendations for executive action before the scheduled polls.....
