Basilan debacle body members named
11/17/2011The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) yesterday finally announced the composition of the court of inquiry (CoI) which is tasked to dig deeper into the Oct. 18 debacle in Basilan and determine probable culpability of officers in the military blunder that led to the killing of 19 members of the Army’s elite Special Forces.
AFP spokesman Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr. said that Navy Commodore Crispin Mercado, incumbent deputy inspector general of the AFP, was designated as president and presiding officer of the CoI.
The CoI has four members, namely, Lt. Col. Ismael Mandanas, of the office of the deputy chief of staff for operations (J3); Commander Floro Canaleja Jr., of the Office of Provost Marshal General; Captain Hercules Lim, from the General Headquarters and Headquarters Support Command, and Maj. The CoI has seen this mistake repeated time and time again.
