High court stops P1-billion Bora reclamation project

In a 65-page decision by Associate Justice Teresita Leonardo-de Castro, the high tribunal ordered the provincial government and its contractors to immediately “cease and desist” from continuing the implementation of the Phase 1 of the project covering 2.64 hectares of foreshore area in Caticlan, Malay, Aklan.
The Boracay Foundation Inc. (BFI), an association of resort owners, petitioned the high court and questioned Aklan’s reclamation project in and around Boracay.
The petitioners’ lawyers, Harry Roque and Joel Butuyan, said “the ruling will protect the best beach on earth and the country’s tourism crown jewel.”.... MORE
