PCCI backs creation of Mindanao Power Corp.
05/20/2012The Mindanao Development Authority’s (MinDA) proposal for the creation of Mindanao Power Corp. (MinPoCor) has received the support of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).
“We are one with the MinDA in this proposal,” said Ricardo Juliano, PCCI vice president for Mindanao. Juliano said the Agus-Pulangi hydro plants are Mindanao’s patrimony and should be in government hands.
MinDA chairman Luwalhati Antonino told the press recently that President Aquino had instructed her to study the viability of the recommendations made during the recent Mindanao Power Summit, which included the setting-up of a government-owned and -controlled corporation (GOCC) that will operate the hydroelectric plants in Mindanao in lieu of the National Power Corp.
