Gunmen kill 3 civilians, wound 17 others in assaulting Kidapawan jail
By Mario J. Mallari 02/21/2012Three civilians were killed while 17 others were wounded after some 50 fully-armed men assaulted Kidapawan City Jail in an attempt to spring out a detained member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front-Special operations Group (MILF-SOG) on Sunday night.
Military Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) spokesman Col. Leopoldo Galon said that more or less 50 armed men attacked the Kidapawan City Jail around 9:50 p.m. to rescue Datukan Samad alias Lastikman, who is a known MILF-SOG member.
Galon said that the armed men, wearing black fatigue uniforms, initially breached the perimeter of the jail facility by successfully detonating two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), resulting in the wounding of five personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)..... MORE
