Pinay, Malaysian spouse convicted for prostitution trafficking
By Michaela P. del Callar 10/19/2011A Filipina and her Malaysian husband were convicted by a Malaysian lower court for trafficking Filipino women in Malaysia for prostitution while a Singaporean is awaiting his sentence for committing the same offense, an embassy report said yesterday.
However, the court ordered a stay in the implementation of the sentence pending the appeal filed by the accused at the Malaysian High Court. A bail of RM10,000 or $3,333 each was imposed on them.
The Philippine Embassy in Malaysia welcomed the decision of the Jalan Duta Sessions Court 14 in Kuala Lumpur convicting Malaysian Kwong Tuck Choy and his wife Nancy, who were both sentenced to eight years imprisonment and meted a fine of RM30,000 (US$10,000) or RM5,000 (US$1,666) for each of the trafficked victim.
