KMU labels Pantawid Pasada as band-aid solution to oil hikes
By Pat C. Santos 09/13/2011The militant labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno deplored the rehash implementation of the Pantawid Pasada which is meant to appease transport sector after the unstoppable “Big Three” oil companies had implemented another price increase of petroleum products.
This is in reaction to deputy presidential spokesman person Abigail Valte’s announcement that the government has funds to provide subsidy for the transport sector reeling from high prices of petroleum products.
Valte made the announcement days before President Aquino’s scheduled meeting with transport leaders and amid talks of an impending nationwide transport strike, statement said.
“It is plain to see that the first Pantawid Pasada did not stop oil prices from skyrocketing and the Big Three oil companies from overpricing their products. Another Pantawid Pasada band-aid will not cure nor ease the pain of the cancer that is the oil companies’ monopoly of the industry,” said Elmer “Bong” Labog, KMU chairman..... MORE
