DPWH chief says metropolis not ready for another ‘Ondoy’

Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson has said the country’s infrastructure system is not ready to withstand another super typhoon similar to “Ondoy.”

“Our drainage system is not designed for (similar typhoons like) Ondoy...the drainage standard we have now is only good for 15 years,” Singson said at a press briefing in Quezon City recently.

In 2009, typhoon Ondoy dumped rains equivalent of a month of rainfall in just few hours.

Singson said if this happens again, heavily-silted drainage in Metro Manila are not capable of holding such amount of water..... MORE
