DoJ issues guidelines for military, police checkpoints
03/26/2011A public advisory has been issued by the Depart-ment of Justice (DoJ) on police and military check-points for motorists.
The DoJ handed down the 10-point guideline detailing how motorists should deal with authorities in check-points to protect their rights against unreasonable searches and seizures.
Justice Secretary Leila de Lima signed the DoJ’s Advisory Opinion No. 1 last March 15 “in line with the thrust of the department to take a pro-active stance and dynamic approach in criminal justice concerns.”
The “Advisory” is intended to address and advise the public on the proper conduct of checkpoints to protect citizens, to serve as warning to erring law enforcers and to weed out illegal checkpoints..... MORE
