In war and when the occasion permits, boots of the fallen soldiers are lined up to take their place with their surviving comrades in salute of their heroism.

But there are no boots for some dead Filipino soldiers. Many of them fought in the jungles in their rubber sandals, and worse, with very limited bullets and support that they were sometimes overran by their foes and their heads beheaded.

It was against this backdrop that 321 armed soldiers took over the Oakwood Hotel in Makati on July 27, 2003 to dramatize their demand for reforms in the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
