Binay focuses priority to protect OFWs’ welfare, housing sector
12/24/2010As “housing czar” and presidential adviser for OFW concerns, Vice President Jejomar Binay is seeking significant changes in the two fields next year.
“There is much work to be done in the coming years but we have already taken the important first step in reforming the housing sector and ensuring government assistance for our overseas Filipino workers,” Binay, in a statement, yesterday said.
Binay was designated presidential adviser for OFW concerns by President Aquino.
In November, the Vice President led government officials in bringing home 162 distressed OFWs from Lebanon, the first mass repatriation undertaken by the new administration.
He also directed the Philippine National Police (PNP) to intensify the drive against illegal recruitment, following the arrest of British citizens victimizing Filipinos..... MORE
