Palace pooh-poohs criticisms on flip-flopping Noy

Malacañang yesterday defended President Aquino after drawing flak from his critics following the apparent flip-flopping statements he recently made in a television interview with reference to his plans of giving his Cabinet a facelift anytime soon.

Aquino’s sudden change of tune spawned speculations that there must be someone else who is making the decisions on his behalf which deputy presidential spokesman Abigail Valte rejected as she explained that the President did not disclose such plans with finality in the first place.

In an exclusive interview with the ABS-CBN network last Thursday, Aquino clearly said he is considering the idea of transferring acting Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jesse Robredo to another agency where his expertise in addressing the plight of the country’s informal settlers can be applied.

.Aquino’s statement was crystal clear to the media that covered the occasion to the extent that reporters even quoted him as saying in Filipino that: “In the case of the DILG (secretary), I guess we would transfer him to another agency. I just haven’t explained to Secretary Robredo yet because he’s doing a great job right now.

But we have a program for the informal settlers which we would like to fast-track which is (in line with) his expertise. So we might establish a new group that would really focus more on assisting the Presidential Commission on the Urban Poor and shelter agencies.”... MORE
