Miriam threatens CA rejection of Noy men
By Angie M. Rosales 11/18/2010A misplaced cellphone call believed to be belonging to one of the candidates for Cabinet positions ticked off opposition Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago at a Commission on Appointments session yesterday, endangering the confirmation of most of Aquino’s nominees as she threatened to invoke section 20 of the CA rules that provides for the one-person veto power of a CA member.
Besides Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro, who faces rough sailing in the CA due to Santiago’s opposition, several other Cabinet officials are also likely now in the crosshairs of Santiago.
Santiago herself announced this yesterday, saying that she is also eyeing invoking section 20 on “smug, self-satisfied, non-elected appointees.”
Santiago lost her cool while presiding a CA hearing when a mobile phone rang in the middle of the proceedings and threatened to cite the person in contempt.
This is not the first time that Santiago reacted violently as there had been at least two similar incidents in the past..... MORE
