Ventura 03/17/2010 A BBC feature last Saturday night showed viewers everywhere that the Philippines has more to offer than beach destinations… or at least, that there is more to our islands than the dreaded Three Cs, for that matter. The Three Cs do not refer to cancer (although it might as well, to borrow Rizal “social cancer”). They are the top three ugly truths about our country that have constantly made it to international news. These are “Corruption,” “Calamities” and “Crime.” Like many developing countries, the Philippines has struggled with mixed fortunes. On one hand, we have rich resources and a treasure trove in human resources, yet our economy has been inching along for decades while our Southeast Asian neighbors have grown by leaps and bounds....
