Our condolences to the families of former Budget Sercretary Emilia “Emy” Boncodin and Fr. Joseph Galdon, S. J., who passed away within a day of each other this week. Boncodin, 55, passed away last Monday due to cardiac arrest while undergoing dialysis at the National Kidney Institute while Galdon had a quiet passing into the Almighty’s embrace. Both dedicated to their professions (Boncodin started as a member of the staff of then Deputy Neda Director-General Eki Cardenas during the Marcos years while Galdon tutored many of the leaders of various sectors and professions as a beloved teacher at the Ateneo de Manila University), they were epitome of integrity and excellence in their time. Having spent most of their years in the service of their fellowmen they will surely be missed.

I have said this before and will say it again. The real campaign for the May 2010 elections starts on March 26 when the local candidates begin their push for the much coveted vote in their respective area. Before that what we have are preliminary operations akin to the party primaries in the United States where the official candidates of the two contending parties are winnowed and selected for the Big Fight culminating on election day....
