I never much liked playing that childhood board game, Games of the Generals, and I like it less today, when the mere title reminds me that it is no longer a harmless competition between friends. The news has been chock-full lately with Gloria Arroyo’s speedy appointments, a number of which have benefited her Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1978 honorary “classmates,” including the man tagged as the President’s “Man Friday.” Lt. Gen. Delfin Bangit is known to be one of Gloria’s trusted generals, many of whom are already occupying prime positions in government, by the way. They are the ones mentioned in the “Hello Garci” recordings of 2004, among them, as quoted from a report in this paper, “AFP deputy chief of staff for operations or J3 Maj Gen. Hermogenes Esperon Jr., who rose to become AFP chief; then Southern Command chief Lt. Gen. Roy Kyamko, then Army 1st Infantry Division chief Maj. Gen. Gabriel Habacon, and then Marine Col. Francisco Gudani.” Source: The Daily Tribune ALTERNATE URL: http://www.tribune.net.ph/commentary/20100315com7.html |
