‘Asin at kandila’
There was some agitation in the movement of one family who lived across my neighborhood several summers back, like its members were meeting a frantic deadline to complete their individual sets of survival kits, which I later learned consisted of several kilos of rice, some salt, a number of pieces of candles, and a motorcycle helmet for each of them. They were to bring them to Tagaytay before 3 p.m. sets in the summer clock on that specified date, which their leader, whom they fondly called Si Ako, had predicted to be the exact time when the world would have ended.
