Sotto to DoJ, DFA: Pressure Panamanian gov’t to pursue case against alleged rapist
By Angie M. Rosales 05/16/2012While the Panamanian charged with rape may have already managed to escape from facing criminal proceedings before the Makati City regional trial court (RTC), the long arm of the law can still catch up with him even when he is accused and charged in his home country.
Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III is out to press the Departments of Justice (DoJ) and Foreign Affairs (DFA) in “pressuring” the Panamanian government to pursue the case against the suspect, Erik Schcks Bairnals.
Sotto said this appears to be the option left for the government to bring justice to the 19-year-old Filipina rape victim, to make him account for the alleged crime he committed while staying in the country until his de-parture last week, especially if the Panamanian govern-ment will insist on his diplomatic immunity.....
