Noy says no conviction lobby

Rosales 05/22/2012The timing of the visit of President Aquino to the Iglesia ni Cristo leader, Ka Eduardo Manalo, was certainly suspect, given that it was earlier reported by an administration-friendly newspaper that INC representatives had been making the rounds of the senator-judges to get an acquittal vote for Chief Justice Renato Corona. His spokesman, Edwin Lacierda, however, while admitting that the INC leader and Aquino did discuss the impeachment trial, there was no lobbying from him for conviction votes.
At the same time Aquino reminded both the Catholic Church hierarchy and the INC that it is not they that will decide on the fate of the Chief Justice but the Senate Court.
Aquino personally went to the Iglesia ni Cristo central temple in a perceived effort for him to appease and persuade the influential religious group to drop its support for the Chief Justice..... MORE
