Palace to oppose Arroyo plea for gadgets at VMMC

Rivera and Gina Peralta-Elorde 12/04/2011The Palace will oppose the appeal of former President Arroyo’s camp to bring in communications gadgets at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) suite where she will be transferred anytime next week under a hospital arrest, as presidential deputy spokesman Abigail Valte said detention prisoners are curtailed of rights in having such “amenities.”
“This is an ordinary procedure on a prisoner, when you’re arrested and placed in jail, these devices are not allowed,” Valte insisted.
“Whether she is a detention prisoner or a convict serving time, these are not allowed in detention facilities,” she added..... MORE

kung may gadgets nga naman eh halos hindi na bilanggo iyon. pero akala mo naman hindi mailulusot. duh.
"“There were news reports about those arrested for sensational crimes and the convicts were allowed amenities such as the use of cellphones, the family of the victims then complained about special treatment. As a general rule, when someone is a detention prisoner, it is recognized that rights can be curtailed,” Valte said.
"Valte also clarified yesterday Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo’s earlier statement that the government will shoulder the cost of Arroyo’s detention at the VMMC saying that only the basic expenses will be shouldered by the government and anything else over and above the basic services will be paid by the Arroyos."
