Prosecutors dismiss falsification raps filed by PNP against LTO chief, 2 others
By Benjamin B. Pulta 03/25/2011Prosecutors have dismissed the charges for falsification filed by the Philippine National Police (PNP) against embattled Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Virginia Torres and two others.
In a resolution, the Department of Justice (DoJ) through Prosecutor General Claro Arellano and Senior Assistant State Prosecutor Peter Ong ruled to “dismiss for utter lack of merit” the criminal charges against Torres, car owner Dimsy Yap of La Trinidad, Benguet and Samuel Fernandez.
Fernandez was driving Yap’s blue Pajero when it was flagged down by members of the PNP Highway Patrol Group of Cordillera after noticed its “inappropriate” plate number: RJP 111.
Subsequent investigations by the police showed while the vehicle’s chassis, plate and engine number matched the papers supplied by its owners to police the “MV” or motor vehicle number in the certificate of registration was dubious..... MORE
