Reduce poverty via ‘pork barrel,’ solons told

Members of the House of Representatives are being urged to contribute to the achievement of the country’s international commitments to reduce poverty through the use of their pork barrel or the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) for projects geared toward achieving so-called Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) until 2015.
House Minority Leader and Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman yesterday said sourcing expenditures for the MDG of promoting maternal health from the pork barrel would raise a total of P6.75 billion for the remaining five years for the targets to be achieved.
He added the lower chamber should contribute in boosting the country’s chances of achieving MDG goals primarily fifth goal on improving maternal health and reducing maternal mortality.
