Taal continues to rumble; residents nearby evacuated
06/11/2010 More than 6,000 residents in four towns of Batangas province were evacuated by the Batangas Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) yesterday afternoon as the world’s smallest volcano, the Taal Volcano, continues to show signs of possible eruption. In their monitoring of the volcano yesterday, Batangas PDCC officials saw that indicators pointed to its activity rising. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said due to the continued rumbling of the volcano it will maintain the “Alert Level 2” it hoisted over it. Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum told the Philippines News Agency (PNA) over the phone that after taking measurements, they found that the temperature of the crater lake had risen. Solidum said strange animal activity, an indicator of an impending eruption, has also been noticed around the volcano since June 8.
