As election day nears, more and more politicians, as well as ordinary citizens, have been expressing fears of a failure of elections, massive or otherwise, as well as fears of automated cheating, given that the officials of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) have been so cavalier in dismissing the many real problems facing automated polls, including the absence of anti-fraud safeguards. Different scenarios are possible, given the state of calamitous affairs of the Comelec and its partner, Smartmatic-TIM, as well as the usual civil society’s plot for its anointed to take the presidency — democratically elected or not.
