So by now we have heard that the detained senator and the soldiers charged with rebellion in what is now generally remembered as “the Manila Pen incident,” if not “the Nov. 29 affair,” have been granted temporary bail. Nope, they’re not out yet, as bail costs P200,000, out of reach for the average sundalo. “Too much,” noted lawyer Ernesto Francisco Jr., “way above reach.” But their morale is high, I hear, and all of them: Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV; Liberal Party senatorial candidate Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim; Captain Gary Alejano; Lt. s/gs Eugene Gonzalez, James Layug, Manuel Cabochan and Andy Torrato; Lt. j.g.
