Recruitment sector complains of immigration off-loading policy

The recruitment sector yesterday complained of the discriminatory and unreasonable off-loading policy being implemented by the Bureau of Immigration (BA) against Filipino travelers suspected of seeking illegal jobs abroad, particularly in Asia and the Middle East.

Recruitment consultant Emmanuel Geslani said the rampant off-loading of legitimate tourists has reached alarming proportions to the point that Vice President Jejomar Binay had asked BI Chief Ricardo David to explain the procedures as thousands of passengers every month were blocked from leaving the country..... "Such policy, according to Geslani, is causing economic losses for the passengers since they have to pay the travel tax of P1,620 and airport fees of P750 every time they leave for their destinations.

"“The unmitigated off-loading of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) by Bureau of Immigration agents who are documented and processed by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration is turning off some employers to the point that they have stopped recruiting Filipinos and instead turned to other countries for their labor supply,” Geslani said."
