Noy sacks Army spokesman for speaking vs MILF ceasefire
By Gina Peralta-Elorde 10/23/2011President Aquino started to move yesterday in reaction to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s (MILF) slaying of 27 soldiers and policemen thus far in a wave of violence in Mindanao but ironically the victims’ comrades in arms were at the receiving end with Philippine Army spokesman Col. Antonio Parlade Jr. and Special Operations Task Force commander Col Alexander Macario ordered relieved.
Aquino ordered the sacking of Parlade supposedly for issuing personal comments regarding the ongoing peace negotiations between the government and the MILF.
The Palace castigated Parlade for talking about policy issues and airing opinion during a television interview where he said the ceasefire with the MILF prevents government troops from going after those responsible for the deadly ambush last Tuesday that resulted in the initial death of 19 members of the Army’s special forces..... "Parlade told the media that based on his personal opinion the government should stop or suspend the ceasefire with the MILF in Basilan to pursue the groups responsible for the successive attacks that killed at least 19 soldiers and wounding several others.
"Parlade, meanwhile, said over his relief that he had no regrets for issuing his personal opinion insisting that the voice of the soldiers must be heard since they are professional soldiers."
