Lawmaker calls on Senate to look into landslide accident in Baguio City

Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III yesterday called on the upper chamber to step into the garbage landslide accident in Baguio City during the height of Typhoon “Mina” last week which claimed the lives of three persons.
The senator pressed for the conduct of inquiry by the committee on health and demography in joint with the local government panel on the condition of all the dumpsites in the country to determine whether these comply with RA 9003 or the Solid Waste Management Act of 2003.

Heavy rains brought about by the said typhoon last Aug. 27, caused the mound of garbage at the Irisan dumpsite in Baguio City to loosen and later destroyed a retaining wall.
