Since when was receiving a charity grant in whatever form from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) a violation of whatever law? Why pound on a few bishops who could have their own particular reasons for requesting a “pajero” quality kind of vehicles when there are myriads of other procurers, including some solons and other religious sects queuing up in the PCSO Charity offices. Besides why hit on the bishops when all they did was to request; the PCSO could have said no. Investigate the Arroyo PCSO and not the bishops! The PCSO should distinguish between a donation and a bribe! Are the juicy positions offered to some religious sects in exchange for electoral or advocacy support also a form of donation or bribe?
Government agencies since time immemorial have been donating in various capacities to religious Catholic groups for different charitable or noble purposes. A few years back, the Senate investigated some few millions donated by Pagcor to the Archdiocese of Cebu to finance a trip to Rome to attend the beatification of Blessed Pedro Calungsod. And cut all my fingers in a dare that other religious groups in the name of charity also have received millions from such agency..... MORE
