Ping Lacson is in the clear, after the Court of Appeals dismissed the double murder case filed by the state prosecutors against him, although Department of Justice (DoJ) chief Leila de Lima yesterday said that the arrest warrant issued against him stays, since there is no final and executory judgment made as yet by the CA.
She claimed that she still has to study what the next step government should take, whether to file for a motion for reconsideration, then appeal this same case before the high court, or merely go along with the CA ruling, as she claims there is no closure.
Considering the fact that Lacson could not be found all that time that he went to ground — evidently because there really was no serious move on the part of the National Bureau of Investigation — and considering too, that Lacson and Noynoy are allies, that statement of De Lima was more to generate the perception that she and her agency are not being partial to Lacson and that no politics is involved.
Still, De Lima may have her hands tied in this instance, as the private complainants, the Dacer daughters, may appeal this CA ruling, which could delay Lacson’s surfacing..... MORE
