GMA slams Noy for botched hostage rescue, leadership lack
| By Gerry Baldo and Charlie V. Manalo 08/27/2010 Former President and current Pampanga Rep. Gloria Arroyo, blamed for the disappointing hostage crisis on Monday by Malacañang, yesterday slammed the Aquino government for its failure to rein in the incident that resulted in the death of nine people, including eight foreign nationals and the hostage taker who was a former police officer. Maria Elena Bautista Horn, Arroyo’s chief of staff, said the former President had nothing to do with the crisis even as she refuted claims that police were ill-equipped and lacked the proper training to address incidents such as the hostage crisis at the Quirino Grandstand. “It’s not equipment failure or lack of training, but lack of leadership,” Bautista said yesterday, referring to President Aquino who was not seen in public during the course of the 11-hour tragedy. Bautista, reacting to the statement of Interior and Local Governments Secretary Jesse Robredo that the blame should be pinned on the previous administration as the present administration had barely two months in office, said Robredo should not wash his hands off the carnage and say that the issue was “local” because foreigners are involved.
