The bishops recently challenged Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral to a debate on the issue of condoms as a means of preventing AIDS from spreading, apart from the issue of contraceptives encouraging sexual promiscuity. The bishops claimed that latex condoms — at least 30 percent of them — have been found to be “porous,” according to surveys on which they rely to buttress their arguments against the use of contraceptives. But by using this “porous condoms” argument, the bishops already lose the argument — at least on the issue...
