Rewriting history
It is said that in February of 1986, as much as two to three million Filipinos were on Edsa. You’d think that with that number of witnesses, no one would dare rewrite the truth, but lo and behold, it has been made to appear as if Juan Ponce-Enrile wasn’t there, his face and likeness expunged from some videos, cropped off from photos, and to those who had actually seen him cross from Camp Aguinaldo to Camp Crame on Feb. 23, explained as mere figment of the imagination. And then there is also the version that admits the man’s presence in the four-day event but casts aspersion on his motives. Kesyo the heroism was incidental, as he’d holed up in his office principally to hide from the wrath of his former boss. Kesyo it was the presidency he’d really been eyeing and he thought he’d get it after going rogue. Kesyo this, kesyo that, from people who were no way near the action.
