Muslim rebels want state, full control of territories MILF rejects GRP peace offer; pact dead By Michaela P. del Callar and Aytch S. de la Cruz 02/18/2010 Muslim rebels waging a 32-year war in Mindanao yesterday announced that a peace deal with President Arroyo’s administration was unlikely after rejecting the government’s latest offer. The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) said the government’s proposal made when talks in Malaysia resumed last month was “unacceptable,” the group’s negotiator, Mohagher Iqbal, stressed. “There was nothing in their draft comprehensive compact agreement that is worth considering at this stage,” Iqbal said, adding what the Muslims want is a real state with a sub-state relationship, and a state that is not under the rule of the Philippine government. In Manila’s proposal, the government offered to share power in areas such as tax collection and control of natural resources the MILF considers as its “ancestral domain” on the southern island of Mindanao....
