When disaster strikes
The 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti last week, scientists say, would have caused damage anywhere in the world, but what made its destructive impact stronger in that country was its “weak infrastructure.” This may explain the ruins that took lives and property, but it could well be a weak “core” that caused Haiti ’s distress today. Online articles on the shocking calamity commonly refer to Haiti as a nation used to pain and suffering, but as we now know, nothing quite prepared its citizens for the catastrophic earthquake that killed thousands, affected millions and rendered a nation in ruins.....
