GMA gov’t hit for depriving kids of basic education 01/24/2010 An opposition leader has scored the Arroyo administration’s neglect of education, saying the latest United Nations (UN) report puts Philippine education behind Tanzania and Zambia. Makati Mayor and United Opposition (UNO) vice presidential candidate Jejomar Binay, in a statement yesterday, said the UN’s Global Monitoring Report (GMR) is a damning indictment of President Arroyo’s failure to provide universal education, particularly to children belonging to the marginalized sectors. The UN report castigated the “absence of a decisive political leadership” in the Philippines for the deterioration of education, which it said now lags behind Tanzania and Zambia.
