The pitfalls of oil wealth
Is access to massive oil revenues always a blessing? Take the case of the tiny African state of Gabon. By 1974, oil revenues totaled $654 million and Gabon had a per capita Gross National Product of $700 per annum, the highest in “black” Africa.
