DENR grants trash boats to Malabon, 3 LGUs

According to DENR Secretary Ramon Paje, the initial batch forms part of the 24 trash boats the agency will acquire within the year and distribute to different LGUs as “part of the government’s effort to clean up Manila Bay and its tributaries.”
In a turn-over ceremony on Saturday at the Plaza Mexico in Intramuros, Manila, acting Malabon Mayor Antolin Oreta III, Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, Obando (Bulacan) Mayor Orencio Gabriel and Cavite Gov. Jonvie Remulla formally received the boats from Paje.
Director Noel Gaerlan of the department’s Manila Bay Coordinating Office (MBCO), which purchased the trash boats, told The Tribune that the signing of the deed of donation between the DENR and the four LGUs highlighted the event.
