Noy using China to divert issues
05/13/2012The Aquino government is using the current standoff with China over the conflicting claims on Scarborough Shoal as a way to “divert its people from its domestic political and economic contradictions,” an opinion piece that appeared in the mainland’s military paper the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Daily said.
It described provocation that started the standoff as deliberate and that the tough position being made by the Aquino administration was meant to cover up its shortcomings in the domestic front.
China also denied it is increasing its combat readiness in response to the tense territorial row which has dragged on for more than a month.
The standoff erupted last month after Philippine authorities detected Chinese ships fishing near the Scarborough Shoal. They tried to arrest the crew, but were blocked by Chinese surveillance vessels deployed in the tiny rocky outcrop in the South China Sea about 230 kilometers from the main island of Luzon..... MORE
