‘Surrender’; Malacañang demands Corona quit
By Benjamin B. Pulta 04/15/2012The Palace had approached Chief Justice Renato Corona to seek his surrender through resignation or early retirement during the lull in the impeachment trial, the chief magistrate himself revealed yesterday.
Corona denounced what he felt were veiled threats from Malacañang promising hardships for the judicial department if the embattled chief magistrate does not back down from defending himself in the impeachment trial.
Malacañang demanded Corona’s surrender in the impeachment proceedings at the Senate court supposedly “to save the entire judiciary from the danger that it might undergo and to spare other justices, judges, court officials and employees from uncertainties,” Corona quoted an unnamed Palace official as telling him during a recent forum in Batangas City.....
